The Challenge
Dairy Crest contacted Drain Alert to investigate a drainage leak beneath the factory floor of their Merseyside processing plant. The leak was deep inside the facility within the CIP (clean-in-place) plant room — a restricted area subject to strict hygiene and safety protocols, requiring full protective clothing including hairnets. Access was extremely confined, and all work had to be completed within a short weekend shutdown to avoid production disruption.
Our Solution
Drain Alert deployed their P350 portable battery-powered crawler camera — purpose-built for confined and restricted access environments. The crawler was lowered into a manhole in the plant room and driven along a 225mm drain, where engineers identified a broken and redundant pipe connection as the source of the leak. A 1-metre epoxy resin patch liner was installed on site, providing a watertight seal. Specialist contractors could then safely fill the large void that had formed under the floor slab — with no risk of concrete infiltrating the live drainage system.
The Outcome
All work was completed within the agreed weekend shutdown. Dairy Crest’s management praised the Drain Alert team’s skill and professionalism in completing technically demanding, confined-space work to time and to the highest standard.
