The Challenge
Diageo’s Guinness facility at Runcorn operates a large effluent drainage system carrying the aggressive chemical by-products of the brewing process — including concentrated acids and caustic substances. The system had deteriorated to the point where a major rehabilitation programme was needed across pipework, manholes, and buffer tanks. All works had to be carried out on a live industrial site, with traffic management along busy site roads and strict health and safety compliance throughout.

Our Solution
Drain Alert carried out a 7-week rehabilitation programme covering pre-works CCTV inspection, installation of specialist chemical-resistant CIPP liners in pipework, manhole, and buffer tank lining designed to resist concentrated acid and caustic attack, full confined space working with certificated operatives, over-pumping and flow isolation to manage the live effluent system throughout, traffic management along affected site roads, and a post-works CCTV inspection confirming completion.
The Outcome
“Drain Alert carried out a major reline of our effluent drain system over 7 weeks at Runcorn. The work included confined space working, CCTV inspection before and after, over-pumping, flow isolation, manhole and buffer tank lining to resist concentrated acid and caustic chemical attack, and traffic control because much of the work was along our busy site roads. Drain Alert are professional and their conformance to health and safety requirements together with site rules and regulations is exemplary. Drain Alert are tidy workers and well organised with comprehensively fitted vehicles. There were no incidents of non-compliance for the duration of the works.”
